FRISCO BUILDING
The Lion Collection
Erkers was first located inside the historic Frisco Building in Downtown Saint Louis, originally built in 1903-04, home to 1000+ decorative lions. This building was our home for more than a hundred years.
INSPIRATION
Design Process
When designing our frames, we take our inspiration from the Frisco Building, as well as the incredible architecture that can be viewed on buildings throughout the Saint Louis region. Our model is wearing the Busch glasses in crystal, a favorite in the Lion Collection.
STRENGTH AND COURAGE
The lion is another important image we use to craft our frames. As a symbol, the lion represents majesty, strength, courage, justice, and leadership. At Erkers, we believe our success comes from such qualities as the lion exemplifies.
RAILROAD
Frisco Architecture
The Frisco Building's 13 stories feature a strong expression of vertical piers. Massive ornamental brackets at the cornice stem from more traditional decorative styles. The building has a heavily. embellished cornice, which is covered with dozens of terra cotta brackets featuring garlands and lions’ heads; a row of smaller lions heads marks the roofline. The facade also features shield emblems with the Frisco Railroad's F&S initials. Squared-off column capitals cap each pier with a faintly Prairie Style look and visually support the cornice; additional lion heads adorn these capitals. The building was constructed for the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad, more popularly known as the Frisco.
